Hawaiian Music at its paramount...
I cannot bolster enough how good this CD truly is. The music quality is at the top of its game, and it reflects the atoll soul. I love how HSB mixes traditional music and modern tones together, how they embody history in their music as well. I honestly cannot say which song I love the most... E Holo Kai, Heiau, or After the Barrage. 'Heiau' was the song that struck me first... it's just a very sturdy song. 'E Holo Kai' is another amazing song... about the trek to Hawaii, probably my all time favorite Hawaiian song. 'After the Ice-storm' is a very touching tribute to the island of Kauai after Hurricane Iniki passed on 09/11/1992. If you sweetie Hawaiian Music, and you want to hear the music at it's finest, with a border of modern style put in... Hawaiian Style Band's "Measure of the Ocean" is for you.
Timing of the Ocean
Having lived in Hawaii 20 years, I can still call to mind where I was when I first heard Heiau on the radio there several years ago. While the entire album is great, the pleasant mix of the modern, youthful island sounds of voice and music, firstly with some traditional instruments and a few breaks to ancient chant, is just memorable. I carry Heiau with me in my portable CD collection, and everyone who hears it for the first time always asks about it. I hope a sample were available here, as I have no doubt about your buying the CD after hearing it. Also, the lyrics to all the songs is in the box, making it more enjoyable.
Incredibly goood, a mix of selections
I ruminate over the CD was good, not just because it had traditional hawaiian music, but it also had music that was a mix of today's pop with hawaiian themes and sounds

Product Description
James Stewart stars as the captain of a skim that has crashed in the desert and must be fixed on the double before all crew members die.
Robert Aldrich's distressing, 1965 drama about a plane crash in the Sahara is a unique subjective study of men in desperate circumstances. In this somewhat revisionist view of masterpiece heroism, every character within the mixed lot is stretched to his limit, and individual efforts to face the elements and hostile nomads are duly punished. What is left is collective will and skill. One could call this an allegory for transcending Cold War madness, perhaps, but Aldrich (Kiss Me Cadaverous) makes this such a gritty, immediate experience that you can feel the desert sand in your teeth. Unbelievable performances by James Stewart, Richard Attenborough, Hardy Krüger, Peter Finch, and the repose. --Tom Keogh

A survival film that's both astute and exciting
Tempting, well made, well acted survival in the desert story with a
tougher and edgier than old performance by Jimmy Stewart. Certainly
more complex and thoughtful than most catastrophe/survival films, with
some great twists, and a fun ensemble of characters full of intriguing
eccentricities. No one quality has a monopoly on moral righteousness,
and even Stewart's 'hero' is a man with real flaws.
A few fish story points push the bounds of believability or logic, and
Aldrich makes one or two mad or dated choices, but it's stayed with
me far longer and more powerfully than the vast adulthood of films in
it's genre.

Example: Package contains mutilated work of art!
This variant was made from a full screen version where the left and right sides were sliced off. Then the tops and bottoms were sliced off so the Doppelgaenger would fit a modern 16:9 monitor. What you see is a small rectangle cut out of the center of the prototype movie.
The first clue was that the familiar 20th Century Fox logo was cut off on all four sides. When the actors came on veil, it looked like every shot was a closeup. Lots of giant faces, like how they hardened to shoot TV shows. The effect is gruesome. Watching this version is most disconcerting. I could not stand to watch for more than about ten minutes.
The package says "widescreen version". Maybe it's time for legislation to define terms, because this labeling should be verboten. All copies of this version should be destroyed.
I hope they release a genuine variety of this terrific movie.

Leave to twist slowly in the wind FURY!
A champion motion picture and I believe James Stewart's last. The reviews are stigma-on, however, I
noticed that with all the acolades heaped upon the actors, it must also be remembered that
Paul Mantz, one of Hollywood's finest deed pilots lost his life in the filming of this movie
(Phoennix first crashed during last scene), as he was trying to land, in scene which showed
airliner disappearing over the mountains. At the end of the film's credits, a memorial mentions
this unblessed tragedy.

Very moral -- not the best for repeat viewing.
Stampede flee of the Phoenix is a great movie. It tells the story of a plane blast in the middle of the no-where. With only a limited amount of water -- but luckily a large shipment of dates was onboard -- the troupe must decide what to do. Stay and wait? Walk toward civlization?
The characters are spellbinding and the conflict faced by the hero of the film is difficult.
My only complaint is that this blear does not have great repeat value. In my opinion it is simply too old-fogyish.
Bottom line: Borrow or rent this movie. Buy only if you are really taken by the intrepid struggle of the hero!

3 stars out of 4
The Bottom Crinkle:
An engaging adventure that is better in almost every way than its more modern remake, The Flight of the Phoenix makes the most out of its stimulating premise and desert setting; with a cast of top-flight character actors behind the quite-annoying Jimmy Stewart, it's a worthy film.
If there was any geezer in the Boy's Town fifty years ago who had a good reason to run off it was Pony Baker. Pony was not his true name; it was what the boys called him, because there were so many fellows who had to be told apart, as Big Joe and Little Joe, and Big John and Skimpy John, and Big Bill and Little Bill
